A change in plans

Many of you may know that I had originally intended to NEVER dress Lexi and Lyla in the same clothes. I made this decision as soon as we found out we were having twins. I want them to have their own personalities and be their own person, not "the twins". I was also super concerned that I would not be able to tell them apart! This has proved not to be so much of an issue due to Lyla's "stork bites" on her eye lids, in addition to her smaller size (stork bites do go away though). Plus, their wardrobe is so much bigger because they can just share clothes! However, I might be rethinking this decision. For the past few days I've been putting them in the same sleepers and today I put them in the same onesies. So are you asking why I've changed my mind yet? Because they look SO FREAKING CUTE! Here's the proof (I don't think Lyla liked the flash very much, poor baby):

So does anyone have any thoughts on this? I don't have enough matching outfits to do this everyday, but should I start buying matching or should I keep them in different outfits? Tough decisions for a Twin Mommy.

  1. I think you should do both! I've got some matching things for my boys and they are 22 months apart! I think they look adorable either way, but matching is pretty cute.

  2. I say both too! At first glance, I thought the first picture was a mirror shot. They are both almost do the same pose like in a mirror. Too cute!

  3. I love the idea of dressing them alike! I think that they look sooo precious in matching clothes! You HAVE to do it when you take them out in public....for more effect! :)

  5. I have only dressed my twin boys the same a couple of times for a Christmas picture where everyone was dressed the same. I always like them to have different clothes on. For one in a quick glance (from the back) you can tell whose whose and who needs to be talked to (or whatever). I have really never understood the thing of dressing them the same. I like the same outfit maybe in differnt colors - that is cute.

I think your girls are super cute also. I found your blog through 3 under 3.

  6. I went to high school with a set of twins who dressed alike each day. That was a bit weird b/c we were 17. But, Lexi and Lyla are teeny. My girls are 3 years apart and I dress them the same. I think it's fine - until they decide it isn't or they turn 15. :>)

  7. The only time I have ever bought identical outfits for my girls was for their Christmas pictures. But we received tons of identical outfits as gifts. So maybe once a week I will dress them the same.

    Adorable pics, by the way!

  8. Hey! Thanks for de-lurking and for the comment on my blog. Your girls are beautiful!! As far as the matching clothes. I think it is super cute. I do both, but mostly they have their own clothes. Plus, they are in different sizes and I did not foresee that soooo...they don't match now at all. Love your blog layout, too. I will def be back :-)

  10. Hi, I just found your blog through Heather's (3 under 3). Congratulations! Your twins are adorable! I have 5.5 month-old twin girls myself.

We mostly got similar, but not exactly the same, types of outfits at showers. My younger sister is a twin, and she was here helping me the first 4 months, so she insisted they match and we buy 2 of everything when shopping for bigger sizes. Personally, I'm just happy they're dressed appropriately for the weather! A friend of mine had her first girl a couple months after mine were born, so she really lucked out because we only had a couple matching outfits in those first couple sizes. She gets all my babies' hand-me-downs since we're done!

If you shop at Target (it's my second home!), you'll have a difficult time buying two of the same outfits. They rarely have 2 of the size I need, so buy them when you see them if you want them to match! One of mine has reflux, so even when they do match, it doesn't last long before I have to change Cora's outfit anyway.

One thing I'm really looking forward to, but dreading at the same time, is getting rid of the infant carseats. When my 4 yo was born, we couldn't find cute pink ones, so we have one pink one and one ugly blue & tan plaid. EVERYONE assumes they're boy/girl twins before they see all the pink clothes/blankets. I always make sure to put whichever is dressed the most girly in the blue one, but it never matters. I'm dreading it, though, because it's going to be so much more work!

This is waaay longer than I intended, so I'll just shut up now. Congratulations on your adorable twins!

  11. Welcome to the dark side, lol. I said the same thing...I'm never going to dress them alike. But seriously how cute are they!? I'm probably going to dress them in coordinating outfits as long as they'll let me. Anyway, it's getting harder to do it now that they are completely different sizes.

  12. I just found your blog through Ramblings of a Tired Mama of 3. I dress my girls alike every once in a while because it is so cute, but I totally agree with you about them being individuals. Something else I do is buy similar outfits in different colors, so it's the same but not. That is how they are dressed today.
