Lexi and Lyla had their 12 month appointment today. The pediatrician said that they are doing PERFECT! They are doing everything they should be doing developmentally and their growth is great:
Lexi: 20 pounds
29 inches
Lyla: 19 pounds, 8 ounces

I can't remember percentiles but I think that they were 50th percentile pretty much. Can you believe my little 4 pound, 17 inch munchkins have grown this much? They have both grown a foot since birth!
The doctor also gave us the green light to stop formula and switch to whole milk. She wants them to only drink out of sippy cups, even if that means they barely drink anything for a few days. This is going to be hard for me, but I know it's for the best! So wish us luck, and pass on any words of wisdom you might have!

More Playdate Fun!
Last Saturday we had another playdate with our good friend Julianna , and this time, Ella was here to join us! Of course their Mommies, Kristen and Leslie, came too! We had such a good time. First, we all ate lunch:

Then, as we were cleaning up, I found this cute scene:
That would be Lyla admiring Julianna's cute bow. Please notice Juju's appropriate placement of her doll baby in the bouncy seat next to her. These girls are too sweet. After everything was cleaned up, it was time to play. Unfortunately, Leslie had to change Ella's stinky hiney which had a horrible diaper rash so all of us Mama's got to check that out as well. The girls all played fairly well together and we had a great time taking pictures! Kristen took a picture of all of us together so hopefully when she gets time she'll post that and I can swipe it!

Say Hello Lyla...
One of Lexi and Lyla's favorite games right now is "The Say Hello" game. The way you play this game is by saying, "Say Hello (insert twin name here)". Then, whichever twin you have chosen will pick up the closest object and hold it to their ear and say something resembling "hello". In a bind if no object is available, a hand will do as well. Here is my beautiful girl Lyla, in what could possibly be my most successful picture ever, saying "hello".

Thanksgiving 2009
Thanksgiving has come and gone, and we now have a birthday to celebrate this week. But first a holiday recap...
My parents came over early with Mr. Turkey who was brined and ready to fry. Josh's parents had bought us a turkey fryer the previous weekend and we so looked forward to using it! So, Josh and my father got Mr. Turkey going while I prepared the mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, corn on the cob, and some rolls. My mother played with the girls and kept them occupied!
Josh's parents arrived with Honey (Josh's grandmother) and Aunt Earline (Josh's great great aunt!). Honey and Aunt Earline enjoyed watching Lexi and Lyla play while we finished up the meal
Everything was delicious! We tried taking some pictures of the girls but they weren't really cooperative (shocker). Nonetheless, here are some of the better ones:

Pre-Thanksgiving Thoughts
I have always loved Thanksgiving, it is one of my favorite holidays. I love Fall with leaves changing and the smell of Winter looming in the air. It's not just the food that goes with Thanksgiving that I love, I love the time of reflection that the holiday brings. This year is probably the most meaningful Thanksgiving that I have ever experienced, because I could not even start to describe how thankful I am for my beautiful baby girls.
Last year at this time, Josh and I were given a big scare as we went to the doctor for my weekly check-up. The doctor was doing ultrasounds at every visit because it was the only way that he could monitor the growth of both babies. At that visit, they saw that Baby B (Lyla) had barely grown and that both babies were actually very small for their gestational age. He preliminarily diagnosed them with IUGR (Intra-Uterine Growth Restriction), but was not ready to deliver yet because they were showing no signs of distress. He put me on "couch-potato rest" (his words, not mine), and made me an appointment with the high risk doctor for December 2nd. I had never been so terrified in my life. We had been so thankful that I had made it to 35+ weeks (at that time) and I never imagined that something would go wrong. (To avoid any suspense...Lexi and Lyla were born healthy at 36 weeks and 4 days and needed no NICU time)
Reflecting on what was going on in my life last year, I can not help but feel incredibly thankful and blessed to be planning a delicious Thanksgiving meal with my parents and Josh's parents. I am so thankful that I will get to watch Lexi and Lyla try all sorts of new foods tomorrow at their first Thanksgiving meal. What a wonderful year it has been, with so much to be thankful for.

Three Post Thursday
Here's my third post for the day...so does that catch me up? I know, technically it doesn't, but I'm trying here. Anyway, there's really nothing substantial to this post except for the fact that I finally got some good pictures of Lexi and Lyla today! Now, I did have to take them while they were in a crib together, but at least they are BOTH looking at the camera! Nevermind the fact that they are basically behind bars in order to make it happen. Oh well...at least they're active babies, right? Lyla's in pink and Lexi's in polka dots. And the weird faces in the last 2 pictures are due to the flash, but they showcased the baby blues too much not to post them.
