I know Josh will probably never read this, as he really does not check out the blog. However, just in case he happens to click on here during a nap time or some rare alone time for him...Happy Father's Day Josh.
Thank you for making me a Mama. Thank you for loving your girls more than I ever expected you would. Thank you for quitting your job to take care of your girls so that I could work with a peace of mind. Thank you for changing poopy diapers and describing the poop for me while I'm at work so I feel like I'm there. Thank you for texting me pictures of the girls while I'm at work. Thank you for making your girls smile and laugh. Thank you for figuring out a schedule that keeps the girls happy. Thank you for keeping the house clean so that I don't have to. Thank you for stepping back on my days off so that I can spend time with them. Thank you for handling all late night "paci replacements". Thank you for not forgetting our furry girls too.
We all love you more than we could ever tell you, which is maybe why I'm typing this.
Love,
Cecilia, Casey, Piper, Lexi, and Lyla

Storm Shelter
Last Friday we had a bad storm come through the Memphis area. I was at work watching it through the walk-up window, while taking care of an extremely storm-phobic patient (don't ask). One of our technicians asked me how Lexi and Lyla do during storms. I said that they are fine, they actually sleep really well though storms. However, Casey and Piper absolutely HATE storms. The storm got so bad that Josh actually had to take precaution and get in the closet with all FOUR of our girls. Of course, he had to take some pictures. They were too funny not to post. Oh, and everyone was fine after the storm, even my storm-phobic patient!

6 Months
Really? Are my teeny tiny babies really 6 months old? Somebody stop time...STAT! I can't believe that Lexi and Lyla are one half of a year old. The past 6 months have not always been easy, but these girls are the most amazing little things in the world. Everyday my love for them grows even stronger, and I often have to stop and wonder how I could possibly love them any more than I did the day before. Lexi and Lyla, your Daddy and I love you both so much and we thank you both for being such wonderful little girls.
Josh and I took the girls to the doctor today for their 6 month appointment. They are growing so well! Lexi weighs 15 pounds and was 25 1/4 inches long. Lyla weighs 14 lbs, 5 ounces and was 24 1/2 inches long. Both of their heads were 43 cm in circumference. Their pediatrician was so amazed by their growth. They are both moving up the growth chart great! It's amazing to think that 6 months ago when we took the girls home from the hospital they both weighed under 4 pounds! Josh and I can grow some babies!
My girls are some tough cookies. First of all, they are definitely not shy. They smiled and just stared at their doctor the whole time. Lexi was even grabbing her stethoscope to try and put it in her mouth! They cried just a second when they got their shots, but the tears quickly turned into smiles when they got picked back up. I'm so proud of them.
And now, their monthly photo shoot. These are some squirmy girls!

I No Longer Have a Dining Room
It's a special night Lexi and Lyla fans. I'm giving you all TWO posts! Mostly because I'm about to be on my 4 day stretch at work and who knows when I'll have the time to update again.
Back to the title of the update...I no longer have a dining room. My dining room has been converted into Daddy Day Care. We moved the dining room table into the breakfast room and my empty hutch into the "foyer". The extender in the old breakfast table has been removed and that table is now in Daddy Day Care. Got it? The things you do for your babies. The girls now have a large room that holds their jumperoos, activity mat, Boppy, and numerous other goodies. Plus they have a big area to play on the floor. Here's some pictures of them playing:

Lexi...yes that is drool all over the front of her outfit.
Mama, do you want to try my fingers? They are awesome! (Lyla)

Another "One Year Ago Today" Post
One year ago today was the day that our lives changed dramatically. One year ago today was a day we will never forget. One year ago today was the day we found out we were having TWINS.
My first pregnancy appointment was supposed to be on May 20th, 2008. Josh took off from work and we went to the appointment. They had me pee, took my blood, and put us in the room and we waited. And waited. And waited. Turned out that my doctor, whom I think might be the OB for the entire Memphis area, had to go into surgery for an emergency C-section. So we left and my pregnancy hormones put me in tears. I scheduled another appointment for May 28th because I did not want to wait a whole month.
On May 28th, 2008 I went to my appointment by myself because Josh could not take off work again so soon after the week prior. I finally got to see my saint of a doctor and I told him about some pain that I was experiencing on my left side. He felt it was probably nothing serious but wanted to rule out an ectopic pregnancy by ultrasound. Normally he would not order an ultrasound that early. So back to ultrasound I went, all by myself. The sweet technician got me all set up and the next thing she said to me was, "Well. Do you want a surprise?". Being naive, I thought maybe she could already tell the sex. Nope. She turned the monitor toward me and said, "Look, you're having twins!". I almost fell off the table. I started crying, "But I don't have twins in my family and I haven't been on fertility drugs!". She gently said, "Honey, the good Lord wouldn't give you anything you couldn't handle." For some reason, as soon as she said that, I felt a wave of calm come over me. "They're so cute!", was the first thing that came out of mouth after that, and then I thought, "Oh goodness, how am I going to tell Josh?". I never saw that ultrasound technician again after that appointment, even though we had about 10 ultrasounds. I wish I knew her name, because I'd love to thank her. On the most trying of days with Lexi and Lyla, I always remember what she told me: "The good Lord would NOT give me anything I could not handle."
